My sewing room is a bright and cheery refuge for me! The morning sun reflecting off the soft yellow walls fills the room with light and warmth making it is a place where I can be productive in my creativity…a place that is peaceful and, for the most part, stress free.
Someone once said that “creative minds are rarely tidy.” (author unknown) There is some truth in that. Recently, however, the clutter of creativity is slowing down my productivity. I like to clean up my space after each job is finished, but multiple back-to-back projects, the busyness of life, outside distractions, and let’s face it, plain old procrastination have caused order and organization to take a nosedive. And not just in the sewing room! Chaos reigns…it’s way past time to purposefully de-clutter!
We tend to think of clutter in terms of the physical…untidiness around us caused by too much “stuff.” Sometimes, the clutter around us is reflecting the emotional and spiritual clutter within us. The emotional baggage we bring with us from the past.
Resentment. Anger. Unhealed emotional scars from broken or toxic relationships. Regrets from the past. Fear of the future. Anger, hate, bitterness, envy. Wrong teachings about the Word of God. These things cloud our vision and bring total chaos and confusion.
Mind clutter keeps us from living the productive, Spirit filled lives that God intended for us from the very beginning.
“You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.” Psalm 139:16 NLT
The creator of the world is a God of order not confusion. This world we live in was purposely created over six days in logical order for what was to come next. And at the end of each day, God looked at what He had made and said, “it is good.” And on the 7th day, He rested.
He desires for us to live purposeful, productive lives that reflect who we are in Him…to rest in Him.
“ …let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Eph. 4:23 NLT
It’s time to purpose to let go of the mind clutter that is taking away your peace. Time to throw out clutter of the past. Time to let go of fear of the future and trust in Him.
“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7NLT
