Last weekend the exhausted redhead relaxed in an internet free zone with her family and friends. This weekend the writer, joined by Asher the ever-faithful snaggletooth feline, find themselves sitting at the brown roll top desk in the quiet space in their gray writing room. The brown and white hamsters are not running on the silver wheels in the attention deficit woman’s mind this morning because those rodents are still laughing about toasting marshmallows for last weekend’s s’mores. Thankfully, the round-eyed cat has begun to drown out the hamster’s cackles with his hypnotic purrs.
It is always a good day when the redhead chooses to sit confined in the brunette beautician’s magic chair. Only a true professional can conquer the massive attack of the dreaded frizz beast. As the persistent beautician exchanges the tangled red rat’s nest for a tamer, more manageable red mess, deep conversations often ensue. The younger licensed expert challenges and inspires her older client to examine old beliefs through new eyes as she inquisitively searches for the truth and demands to know what and where the Bible states the answers to an interesting and random array of topics. May her tribe of God fearing, God loving, truth seekers increase.
“SO HE SAID TO THE JEWS WHO HAD BELIEVED IN HIM, IF YOU CONTINUE IN MY WORD, YOU ARE TRULY MY DISCIPLES.THEN YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.” JOHN 8:31-32
If the truth will set you free, what will a lie do?
A lie will hold you in bondage in a place far worse than a beautician or barber’s chair. Truth can transform your frantic rat-infested lifestyle into a smoother, calmer, more manageable lifestyle, but first you must know Jesus as your Savior. If you know Jesus as your Savior, do you know Jesus as the truth, as your truth?
We must get into the Word of God if we want God to begin to transform our lifestyle from rat-infested to Holy Spirit filled. The Word of God is Spirit breathed and the Word of God is alive. Like God Himself, His Word is unchanging because they are the same yesterday, today and forever. Any question you ever have has a truthful answer within the pages of the Bible, if you are willing to open its pages and prayerfully begin to read the words written in red and black.
This week’s redhead challenge is this:
Take the time to think about your beliefs. Why do you believe the things you believe? Did someone you trust, maybe a family member, friend, preacher, teacher, or coworker, tell you their beliefs, and because you assumed these influential people were more knowledgeable than yourself, did you adopt their beliefs as your personal beliefs, without ever consulting God’s Word and asking Him to show you the truth?
Were you raised to believe a certain way by your family, your community, or your culture? Did you choose to believe a certain way based on things you read, heard, or saw, accepting a biased lie without ever considering if it may not be the entire truth?
This week spend some time thinking about what you believe and how and why you came to believe these things. Talk to God, read His Word this week and ask Him to reveal any lies that you or the enemy have planted in your mind or in your life. Look in God’s Word to see what He says about the things you accept as your own truth. Be open to God’s correction. The truth of Jesus and the truth in His Word will set you free but only if you are willing to spend time with Jesus in the truth of His Word.
As always. your comments are always welcome.
